Industry / Consulting Activities

Spent about 11 years in industry prior to the present academic career. The first five years (1975-1980) were in executive positions in sales and purchasing with HMM Ltd. (now Glaxo SmithKline), New Delhi in their Calcutta and Delhi offices. The next six years (1980-1986) were as Executive Assistant to the Chairman and CEO of Binny Ltd., Madras, involved in turnaround and overseeing implementation.

Consulting projects include: Workshops on Strategic Thinking and Strategy Diagnostics for participants from mid to senior management; Design and implementation of an employee interactive feedback system at a pharmaceutical company; Market survey and entry strategy for a tea processor looking to pursue overseas expansion; and a strategic framework for developing the food processings sector for a state.

Contribute, since 1996, a bi-weekly column on strategic management and international business topics to Business Line, a business daily published from Chennai, India.
